The head of Roscosmos named three growth points for space startups: among them the Frontiers of Science Guild

In an interview with RBC, Dmitry Bakanov, the new head
of the Roscosmos state corporation, outlined emerging centers of attraction for
promising engineering startups in the Russian space industry. According to him
, new technology companies will focus on
the infrastructure and expertise of the Skolkovo Foundation, the non
—governmental development institute Innopraktika, and the team of entrepreneur Ilya Chekhov, a scientific and technological
Guild "Frontiers of Science".
Bakanov emphasized the role of Ilya Chekhov, the founder
of the successful Motorika company (developer of bionic prostheses, 45% of the MedTech market
in Russia), who, having achieved significant commercial success, now
directs resources and energy to the development of space technologies.
There is a team that has developed around Ilya Chekhov ... and it is important that these startups also appear so that they see the future," said the head of Roscosmos.
We are talking about the Frontiers of Science Guild, co
-founded by Ilya Cech and Galina Malygina. The organization, created by experienced
technology entrepreneurs, sets ambitious goals for the development
of cosmonautics in Russia. Its strategy focuses on three main areas:
- fundamental astrophysical research;
- technological developments for orbital, lunar and Martian stations with the possibility of application on Earth;
- educational programs and popularization of science.
The Guild will become a link forming an ecosystem for preparing humanity for the exploration of the Solar system. The first projects have already been launched, which in the coming years will provide world—class technological and scientific results," Ilya Cech said.
Dmitry Bakanov emphasized the importance of synergy
between industry giants, infrastructure centers like Skolkovo and
Innopraktika (which, according to him, has already invested in Geoscan, whose satellites
have been successfully launched into orbit), and a private space initiative.
Ilya Chekhov.
It is important that, in addition to industry—specific solutions, we also manually help these small grains to germinate fully," he said. Bakanov.
The head of Roscosmos also spoke about the reincarnation
of the space cluster. The relevant negotiations, according to him, are underway with
Sergey Perov, head of the Skolkovo Foundation. The Frontiers of Science Guild team
finds the cluster relaunch interesting and is ready to participate in it.
Ilya Cech formulated a vision of how
the updated cluster should work.:
- it is necessary to build a chain from finding startups to placing an order;
- it is important to study fundamental science ( this was not enough last time);
- The cluster can not only include startups, but also become an R&D center for Roscosmos and other organizations.
In order for the restart to work, and
startups appeared and developed in the cluster, the Frontiers of Science Guild, together with
Roscosmos and other private companies (Geoscan, Bureau 1440, Sputnix
, and so on) I am ready to build a complete chain from scouting to ordering from
companies.
The parent companies of Roscosmos and private companies should become technology customers. This way, you can create interest in investing and implementing solutions that startups will create. Last time, we believe, the space cluster lacked just this moment: there were startups, but there was no consumer for their development," explained the founder of Frontiers of Science.
Future achievements in space are connected precisely with
fundamental research. Therefore, it is important to engage in
fundamental science within the cluster — this was also not taken into account last time. In addition,
Roscosmos has many engineering tasks that do not require the creation of individual
startups. The cluster can become an R&D center, including manufacturing
companies and laboratories that will carry out work commissioned by both Roscosmos
and resident startups.
